September 3, 2025. OTTAWA, ON. Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) concluded a visit to Ukraine on August 31.
The visit demonstrated the Ukrainian Canadian community’s unwavering solidarity with the Ukrainian people and Ukraine’s courageous defence against Russia’s genocidal war of aggression.
“Russia seeks the destruction of Ukraine’s freedom – and freedom wherever it thrives. The Ukrainian people bravely defend not only their own liberty, but ours as well. We must continue to do all in our power to support Ukraine until Victory,” stated Chyczij. “Canada and allies must increase sanctions on Russia – including confiscation of Russian assets –and accelerate the delivery of weapons and air defences to Ukraine.”
The visit took place as Russia escalates its depraved attacks on Ukrainian civilians, targeting residential areas of Ukrainian cities with massive missile and drone attacks, while the Trump administration delays promised sanctions and seeks to appease Russia.
On August 24, Ukraine’s Independence Day, Chyczij greeted the Right Honourable Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, who was on his first official visit to Ukraine. Prime Minister Carney stressed Canada’s active engagement in the Coalition of the Willing and stated, “Ukraine is, once again, at the frontline of the struggle for democracy and freedom. This is a critical moment where allies must step up and lead, and Canada is answering that call. Canada is, has, and always will be a steadfast ally in Ukraine’s relentless pursuit of freedom.”

On August 26, Chyczij, together with a delegation from the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC), met with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Chyczij assured President Zelenskyy that the UCC will continue to advocate forcefully to the Government of Canada and Canadian politicians about increasing support for Ukraine.

On August 29, the Day of Remembrance for the Fallen Defenders of Ukraine, Chyczij paid tribute to Ukraine’s Heroes who gave their lives for Ukraine’s freedom.
Together with the UWC delegation, Chyczij also met with Ministers and high-level representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Culture, Education and Economy; as well as factions of Ukraine’s Parliament, and the Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation.

Chyczij also attended the second annual National Prayer Breakfast, which was attended by 1200 people including over 350 international guests from 50 countries.
