September 15, 2025. OTTAWA, ON. As the fall session of Canada’s Parliament begins, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) is calling on Members of Parliament and the Government of Canada to demonstrate leadership to our allies and work towards securing Ukraine’s victory.
The UCC welcomes the recent official visit of Prime Minister Mark Carney to Ukraine and calls on Canada’s MPs and the Government of Canada to build on these commitments and help secure Ukraine’s victory:
Defence
- Increase military assistance to Ukraine beyond the $2 billion earmarked for this year;
- Substantially increase investment in joint Ukrainian- Canadian defence production;
Economy
- Increase support for the Canadian private sector that seeks to invest in Ukraine;
- Invest in domestic energy production and pipelines to grow Canada’s economy and deprive Russia’s war machine of revenue
Justice
- Designate Russia a state supporter of terrorism;
- Substantially increase sanctions on Russia and Russia’s shadow fleet;
- Support an international tribunal to hold Russia accountable for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity;
- Work with allies to seize the $300 billion in frozen Russian assets held in the West.
Russia is emboldened by President Trump’s appeasement of Putin and NATO’s indecisive and ineffectual response to Russia’s war against Ukraine, and predictably, is escalating its aggression. Last week Russia launched a drone attack on Poland. Russia’s barbaric drone, missile and rocket attacks targeting Ukrainian civilians have doubled since President Trump was sworn in.
It is in Canada’s national interest to ensure a strong, free, democratic Ukraine with which Canada is a close security partner. Canada shares thousands of kilometers of border with Russia and is bound by treaty to defend European NATO allies should Russia attack these allies.
Increasing Canadian energy production will deprive Russia’s war machine of revenue, build Canada’s economy, provide good paying jobs to Canadians and increase global security.
