October 9, 2025. OTTAWA, ON. A large majority of Canadians want to see the Canadian Government continue and increase support for Ukraine in its defence against Russia’s war of aggression, a survey commissioned by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) found.
“Russia is escalating its barbaric attacks on Ukraine and testing NATO’s resolve, flagrantly violating NATO airspace. Canadians are clear about their strong support of Ukraine and understand that helping Ukraine is in Canada’s interest,” stated Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the UCC. “The UCC is grateful to the Government of Canada for its steadfast support of Ukraine and calls upon Canada to lead the G7 and NATO allies in delivering increased support to Ukraine, strengthening sanctions and ensuring the isolation of Russia so that it cannot continue to threaten our collective security.”
The survey was conducted by Abacus Data on October 1-2. Among its key findings:
- 68% of Canadians support continuing to provide support to Ukraine in its defence against Russia’s invasion;
- 65% support increasing Canada’s supply of military equipment and training to Ukraine;
- 77% support imposing stronger sanctions on Russia;
- 70% support seizing frozen Russian assets in Canada and using them to fund Ukraine’s defence and reconstruction;
- 69% support Canada creating more permanent residency pathways for Ukrainians displaced by war;
- 78% believe that Canada’s actions in Ukraine also strengthen our own security, including defending the Arctic and our NATO allies.
