October 22, 2025. OTTAWA. ON. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) issued the following statement:
This morning Russia bombed a kindergarten in Kharkiv where 48 children and staff were present. The children were evacuated to a shelter.
Every day the carnage continues. Just today, one civilian was murdered and six were injured in Kharkiv; in Kyiv, Russia murdered six civilians – including a six-month old child and a twelve-year old girl – and injured 29 civilians; in Zaporizhzhia, 15 civilians were injured. May the Memory of the Victims Be Eternal. Вічная Пам’ять.
Russia also bombed Odesa, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Poltava, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, and Sumy oblasts.
Russia’s deliberate attacks on civilians and innocent children is a monstrous act that demands a strong response from the international community.
Ukraine’s allies must increase military support and air defences to Ukraine immediately to protect innocent lives. Russia’s war machine must be shut down with stronger and targeted sanctions.
Statements of solidarity with Ukraine must be matched with action to ensure that Ukraine’s courageous Armed Forces can expel Russian barbarians from sovereign Ukrainian territory.
While Russia exponentially increases its depraved attacks on Ukrainian children and civilians, Ukraine’s allies are decreasing military aid to Ukraine. The Kiel Institute reported that military aid in July and August fell by 43% compared to the first half of the year.
