January 9, 2026, OTTAWA, ON. Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC), issued the following statement on the resignation of the Honourable Chrystia Freeland as a Member of Parliament:
On behalf of the Ukrainian Canadian community I thank the Honourable Chrystia Freeland for her many years of exemplary public service to Canada and for her steadfast and unequivocal support for Ukraine.
Since Russia’s full-scale, genocidal invasion of Ukraine, Chrystia Freeland has played a crucial role in ensuring continued and predictable support for Ukraine in Canada, the G7 and in the international community. She was instrumental in leveraging frozen Russian assets for the support of Ukraine.
Most importantly, Chrystia Freeland will always stand unwaveringly for the principles for which the Ukrainian people fight – democracy, human rights and liberty. Her passionate advocacy for those values is an example for all to follow.
We will continue to work closely with Ms. Freeland in her role as Economic Adviser to the President of Ukraine and I wish her continued success in all endeavors.
I warmly congratulate Ms. Freeland on this important appointment, which comes at a critical time for Ukraine and for the freedom of Europe. Ms. Freeland is a global leader and a passionate advocate for Ukraine and will continue to play a key role in rallying a strong allied response to Russia’s genocidal aggression.
On a personal note, I thank Chrystia for her friendship and support over these many turbulent years.
Христю, дякую Tобі!
