January 9, 2026. OTTAWA, ON. Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) issued the following statement:
Last night Russia once again bombed Ukrainian cities, towns and civilian infrastructure with over 240 drones and 30 cruise and ballistic missiles.
In Kyiv at least four civilians were killed and 26 civilians were injured – including a medic who was killed in a Russian “double tap” attack on first responders. Nearly 6000 apartment buildings in Kyiv are without heat due to Russian terror strikes on the city.
Across Ukraine, at least nine civilians were killed and 57 injured in Russian terror-bombing of Kherson, Kryviy Rih, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro and other Ukrainian cities and towns.
Lviv, which is less than 70 km from the border with Poland – the eastern flank of NATO – was bombed with a nuclear-capable medium range ballistic missile.
The Ukrainian Canadian community joins the Ukrainian people in mourning the victims of these appalling Russian terrorist attacks. Вічная Пам’ять.
It should have long ago been obvious to Western leaders that Russia does not want peace – Russia wants only destruction, devastation and subjugation. Western leaders must bankrupt the Russian war machine, and increase air defence deliveries and the delivery of military assistance to Ukraine.
We must help Ukraine win. That is the only path to peace.
