May 8, 2026. OTTAWA, ON. On May 7, Senator Stan Kucher (Nova Scotia) retired from the Senate of Canada.
The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) expresses its profound gratitude to Senator Kutcher for his service to Canada and his determined advocacy for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. UCC National President Alexandra Chyczij represented the Ukrainian Canadian community in the Senate as his colleagues bid Senator Kutcher farewell.
Senator Kutcher’s farewell speech, and heartfelt tributes from his Senate colleagues, can be viewed here:
“It has been an honour and a privilege for the Ukrainian Canadian Congress to work with Senator Stan Kutcher in support of our community and of the Ukrainian people,” stated Chyczij. “Senator Kutcher has been an invaluable advisor, and I am proud to call him a friend. We look forward to continuing to work with Senator Kutcher and we wish this true patriot of Canada and Ukraine continued success and a well-deserved retirement.”
Among the many important initiatives undertaken by Senator Kutcher was his authorship of Bill S-210 – which will establish September as Ukrainian Heritage Month in Canada. The bill has passed the Senate. The swift adoption of Bill S-210 by the House of Commons would be a fitting tribute to the legacy of Senator Kutcher. The UCC calls on the House of Commons to immediately adopt Bill S-210.
Senator Kutcher has been a tireless advocate for Ukrainian displaced persons in Canada, for increased Canadian assistance to Ukraine and for increased pressure on Russia. Drawing upon his considerable experience as a psychiatrist, professor and educator, Senator Kutcher has worked to improve mental health services in Ukraine.
Senator Kutcher has made the Senate – and Canada – a better place. The UCC thanks him and wishes him Многая Літа!
