From May 2–4, participants in the UCC Youth Ambassador Program from across Canada gathered in Ottawa for a weekend of reflection, recognition, and advocacy. 

Bringing together young Ukrainian Canadian leaders from coast-to-coast-to-coast, the weekend began with a dedicated debrief session, where Youth Ambassadors reflected on their work in the program, sharing insights, challenges, and the growth they experienced over eight months. What emerged was a clear picture of a cohort that has not only developed new skills, but has built a strong sense of purpose, connection, and responsibility to their communities. 

A highlight of the weekend was the Networking Reception at the Embassy of Ukraine in Ottawa, where the 2025–2026 cohort was formally recognized and presented with their graduation certificates by UCC National President Alexandra Chyczij and Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada, His Excellency Andrii Plakhotniuk. Surrounded by community leaders, partners, and supporters, the evening underscored the importance of investing in youth leadership. 

The following day, that investment was put into action. Youth Ambassadors participated in Advocacy Day on Parliament Hill, meeting with Members of Parliament to discuss key priorities impacting the Ukrainian Canadian community. For many participants, this was their first experience engaging at the national policy level — a powerful opportunity to translate their learning into real-world impact. 

The program concludes at the end of May. Youth Ambassadors are finalizing and continuing to implement their community impact projects, addressing needs ranging from newcomer support and youth engagement to cultural initiatives and advocacy efforts. These projects are practical, active, and community-driven contributions that reflect the initiative and leadership of each participant. 

The UCC Youth Ambassador Program is made possible through the support of our community. By investing in young leaders, we are strengthening not only individual capacity, but the long-term resilience and voice of the Ukrainian Canadian community across the country. 

We are proud to see this cohort transition into active alumni, continuing their leadership journeys within their communities, and we look forward to welcoming the next cohort this September as the program continues to grow.
