May 21, 2026. OTTAWA, ON. On Vyshyvanka Day – an international day to celebrate Ukraine’s wonderful culture and traditions – the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) calls on the House of Commons to swiftly adopt Bill S-210, An Act Respecting Ukrainian Heritage Month, sponsored by Senator Stan Kutcher.
“Swift adoption of Bill S-210 would be both a fitting acknowledgement of the contributions Ukrainians have made to Canada – and a strong signal of support to the Ukrainian people, who heroically defend their country from Russia’s genocidal war of aggression,” stated Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the UCC. “There are four more sitting weeks before the House of Commons rises for summer recess. The UCC calls on the House to pass Bill S-210 before the summer recess so that this September we can celebrate Ukrainian Heritage Month from coast to coast to coast of our great country.”
Bill S-210, authored by Senator Stan Kutcher, which passed the Senate in October 2025, would establish September as Ukrainian Heritage Month in Canada and would recognize “the significant contributions that Ukrainian-Canadians have made and continue to make to Canada’s social, economic, political and cultural fabric.” The bill was introduced in the House by Yvan Baker (MP, Etobicoke-Centre) and was reported out of the House Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage without amendment in April 2026.
