June 2, 2026. OTTAWA, ON. Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) issued the following statement:
Overnight, Russia launched one of the largest attacks against Ukrainian civilians since Russia launched its genocidal war in February 2022. Russia murdered at least 20 people and injured over 100 – including children. Dozens of people remain in hospital across Ukraine. The Ukrainian Canadian community joins the Ukrainian people in mourning the innocent victims of Russia’s barbaric attacks. May Their Memory Be Eternal. Вічная Пам’ять.
Russia fired over 70 cruise, ballistic and hypersonic missiles and over 650 attack drones against civilians in Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy and other Ukrainian cities and towns. In Dnipro, Russia used cluster munitions in order to inflict maximum casualties amongst civilians.
The consequences for Russia’s sustained, systemic and depraved campaign of terror against Ukrainian civilians cannot be limited to yet another series of condemnatory statements.
Ukraine’s partners have the munitions Ukraine needs to defend its skies. Ukraine’s partners can further isolate Russia – implementing a full trade embargo, expelling Russian embassies, seizing Russian assets, and designating Russia a terrorist state. We urge the Canadian government to show leadership amongst Ukraine’s partners and implement these long overdue measures immediately.
