On July 29, 2026, for the third time in the last eight months, the Globe and Mail published disgraceful Russian-government approved propaganda.
The “report” by Russian-government accredited “journalist” Goran Tomasevic, tries to elicit compassion for the war criminals who invaded Ukraine, Tomasevic writes glowingly about Russian occupiers’ “resilience and calm” and laments the “trauma” they have supposedly endured.
There is no mention of the crimes against humanity, war crimes, murders, torture or the abductions for which these criminals are responsible.
This follows two other “reports” by Tomasevic about the notorious Akhmat unit of the Russian security forces. The unit is well-known for its sadism and brutality. The Globe obfuscates and omits entirely the Akhmat’s long record of crimes from its reporting.
Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) wrote to Globe and Mail editor David Walmsley – “The Russian government does not give accreditation to foreign journalists unless doing so serves a propaganda purpose. Globe readers, the Canadian public and the government agencies which subsidize your publication deserve to understand under what terms and conditions Tomasevic and by implication, the Globe, received accreditation from the Russian government.”
