The Ukrainian Canadian Congress and the Association of Ukrainian Canadian Veterans were honoured to present the Ukrainian Canadian Sacrifice Medal to Canadian Heroes Mackenzie “Mac” Hughes and Caleb David Koopman, in Kyiv on August 15.
Mackenzie “Mac” Hughes was wounded in action in July 2025 serving with Ukraine’s Armed Forces in Zaporizhzhia defending Ukraine’s freedom against Russia’s genocidal war of aggression.
Caleb David Koopman was wounded in action in October 2025 serving with Ukraine’s National Guard in Kupiansk region defending Ukraine’s freedom against Russia’s genocidal war of aggression. A last-minute training assignment prevented him from attending the Medal ceremony in person.
