The Ukrainian Canadian Congress awards the Shevchenko Medal to Lesia Chaplywa-Schur as an expression of acknowledgement for her outstanding contributions to Ukrainina children’s literature and to the development of Ukrainian educational material for children and youth. Lesia Chraplywa-Schur is a noted writer and author of literary works for children and youth, as well as an editor and compiler of educational material and a leading member of the educational sector of Plast. Her literary activity has been directed at nurturing a young generation living outside Ukraine. She is the author of 15 books for children and youth written from a religious and patriotic perspective. Lesia Chraplywa-Schur also works and an editor. Over the course of 16 years, she edited Готуйсь, a magazine for Plast children, a reader Хрестоматія тисячоліття Хрещення Руси-України, Говорить четверте покоління – голод 1933 моїми очима and Чорний біль Чорнобиля. Two generations of children in Canada and the diaspora grew up on her works.
