
Andrijko Semaniuk
BIO
Andrijko is an active Ukrainian Catholic attending Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral. Through the years he has been the captain of the Cathedral’s altar boys and is a member of the Cathedral choir.
He graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary School (elementary school) with Honors and the recipient of several scholarships and awards for his high academic standing, musical skills, and strong Christian values.
He attended St. Paul’s High School (SPHS) where he assumed various leadership roles such as: the editor of the school newspaper; various lead roles in school drama productions; co-author of a St. Paul’s drama production for which he wrote in a Ukrainian character; the Maroon &White Society, which required him to be a school spokesperson and to host VIP’S; a Team Captain of the SPHS’s Crusaders Football Team, which won the City Championship in his graduating year.
It was upon Andrijko’s suggestion and initiative that Metropolitan David Motyk was invited to participate in his graduating class’ Divine Liturgy. Andrijko, achieved Gold Honours every year at SPHS and graduated with several scholarships for his high academic standings, strong Christian values and for the various leadership roles within school and in the community.
Currently, Andrijko is a student at the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Business, majoring in International Business. He has been named to the Dean’s Honor Roll for the last three years and received the Ukrainian Studies Award in 2009. That same year Andrijko studied at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and achieved top grades in Ukrainian language and history. Andrijko is fluent in reading, writing & speaking Ukrainian.
He is a member of the Ukrainian Youth Association — CYM. In the past, Andrijko has taken on key leadership positions ranging from Senior Youth Counselor to Head Counselor. This allowed him to travel across Canada as a CYM Camp Head Counselor. Over the years, he has participated in cross-Canada training seminars in effective leadership. Currently, Andrijko is a member of CYM Winnipeg’s Board of Directors, where his current responsibility is organizing CYM’s day-to day program operations and mentoring other CYM counselors for leadership roles.
For the past several years he has organized annual Leadership seminars which include participants from Ontario and Alberta. This past May, Andrijko was appointed to the CYM National Executive Board of Directors.
Andrijko has been actively involved with the Ukraine Kyiv Pavilion for many years, from entertainer to the Master of Ceremonies. He has been the pavilion’s Youth Ambassador as well as Folklorama’s Youth Ambassador General.
Andrijko has always had a passion for music, especially Ukrainian music. He is a member of ‘Hoosli Male Chorus’ as well as the male vocal trio ‘Shablia’. This has allowed him to perform at events such as Malanka, various Ukrainian festivals, Folklorama, Carolfest; and CYM’s International Zlet 2006 in Ukraine.
Andrijko’s musical talents have allowed him to be a member of the band ’Sloohai’ and most recently, the emerging Ukrainian sensation ‘Zrada’. This young and dynamic Ukrainian group has already performed throughout Manitoba, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta and New York, USA. ‘Zrada’ has and continues to work with the world renowned Ukrainian band ‘Haydamaky’.
Andrijko’s stong teamwork approach and leadership skills make him an excellent role model for other Ukrainian youth. Andrijko Semaniuk is very proud of his Ukrainian heritage as he wholeheartedly commits toward the betterment of the Ukrainian Canadian community.
