
Bill (Wasyl) Diachuk

Bill Diachuk led a fund raising campaign to finance the Bortniansky album of music on behalf of the Ukraine Millennium Foundation. He acted quickly to the Lviv Air tragedy in Ukraine in 2002. He committed the community to the adequate response to this tragedy.
Through his association with the Bishop Budka Charitable Society and the financial assistance from CIDA has assisted the poverty stricken people in the Third World countries of Brazil and Argentina. Has followed up on these projects by travelling to Brazil to evaluate the assistance provided towards the projects.
As the current President of the Ukrainian Canadian Social Services in Edmonton has spear-headed the immigration of 40 families from Ukraine and Poland under the self-exile program. Under the guidance of Bill Diachuk, UCSS has sponsored and has settled in Edmonton and surrounding area approximately 350 refugees from former Yugoslavia; continues to assist independent immigrants, mostly from Ukraine, to settle in Canada, in Alberta.
Bill has the ability to recognize a need and has a commitment to getting things done which has led to a lifetime of volunteer activities. He currently devotes his time to various community organizations through the Edmonton region, but also continues to participate in planning and implementing community development overseas. His volunteer accomplishments made and continue to make a significant difference to the lives of many in the community. He embodies the spirit of volunteerism.
He uses his sensitivity and willingness to provide help where it is most needed. He has that ability to spot opportunities for new services for those who are not able to help themselves.
