Orest Subtelny

Professor Subtelny authored six books, including the seminal Ukraine: A History, published in 1988, which has been translated into numerous languages and published in four editions. He was editor of the journal Nationalities Papers, and an organizer of numerous international scholarly conferences. He authored dozens of academic articles and book chapters. He was Professor of History and Political Science at York University in Toronto from 1982 to 2015.

For his outstanding contributions to the development of the Ukrainian Canadian community in the category of Education, Professor Subtelny was awarded the Shevchenko Medal, the highest award bestowed by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress. He was also awarded the Order of Merit by the Government of Ukraine, and named a Foreign Member of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, among other community and academic awards and honours.
