Established by a Resolution of the XXVII Triennial Congress of Ukrainian Canadians in Winnipeg in fall, 2022, the Ukrainian Canadian Sacrifice Medal will honour Canadian citizens who have been killed or wounded in action serving with Ukraine’s Armed Forces in defence of Ukraine’s freedom against Russia’s genocidal war.

Members of the Ukrainian Canadian Sacrifice Medal Committee are:
• Taras Jackiw (Chair) UWVA
• Jars Balan (UCC), Ukrainian Self-Reliance League of Canada
• Captain (Retired) Ihor Kozak CD (UCC)
• Captain (Retired) Andre Sochaniwsky CD (UWVA)
• Roman Waschuk (UCC), former Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine (2014-19)

Many Canadians have volunteered to fight for Ukraine’s freedom in the ranks of Ukraine’s Foreign Legion. Several have heroically given their lives or been wounded. The Ukrainian Canadian Sacrifice Medal is our community’s opportunity to honour their bravery and valour. Generations of Canadians have courageously defended freedom against tyranny – today, many do so valiantly in Ukraine, and we are forever grateful for their service.
