Ukrainian Independence Day At-Home Activities

August 24th 2020 marks the 29th anniversary of Ukrainian Independence, a day marked by lively celebration and display of national pride and spirit. This year, however, large scale in-person celebrations are unfortunately not an option due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This does not mean that we cannot mark this momentous occasion. Communities all around the world are putting on various online and in-person events. In addition, we have put together a list of activities for you to celebrate from the comfort of your home.

Make a Motanka Doll:

The motanka doll is one of the oldest Ukrainian traditions. While these dolls were originally regarded as symbols of fertility and household guardians, in the modern day they are more concerned with style and décor. The making of these dolls requires no stitching. You will need stuffing, scraps of cloth, string and your imagination.
