UCC Congratulates Andrew Scheer on Election as Leader of Conservative Party
May 29, 2017. OTTAWA. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) congratulates Andrew Scheer (MP Regina-Qu’Appelle), who was elected as the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada on May 27.
“On behalf the Ukrainian Canadian community, I congratulate Mr. Scheer on his election as leader of the Conservative Party,” stated Paul Grod, National President of the UCC. “We look forward to working with Mr. Scheer and the Conservative Party on issues of importance to our community.”
Mr. Scheer was first elected a Member of Parliament in 2004. From 2011-2015, he served as Speaker of the House of Commons.
In March 2014, Mr. Scheer, together with Paul Grod, was one of thirteen Canadians sanctioned by Russia in retaliation for Canada’s strong commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In the fall of 2016, Mr. Scheer attended the XXV Triennial Congress of Ukrainian Canadians in Regina.
The UCC applauds all the candidates who participated in the Conservative Party’s leadership race and thanks them for their dedication and service to Canada. The UCC participated in the CPC convention as an observer.
