June 26, 2019, Ottawa, ON – Today on Parliament Hill the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) launched 6 key policy priorities in advance of this year’s federal election in Canada. These policy briefs are the result of extensive consultation and research which included community engagement over the past several months. The UCC’s key priorities are as follows:
- Strengthening Canada-Ukraine Defence and Security Relations
- Supporting Democratic and Economic Reform in Ukraine
- Fighting Online Hate and Disinformation
- Welcoming Newcomers to Canada
- Helping Our Culture Flourish
- Ensuring Quality, Safe and Affordable Care for Seniors
At the forefront of issues that unite the community, the UCC has developed informed, front-line perspectives on public policy challenges that impact our community and the broader Canadian public. The policy briefs UCC has developed on the 6 key themes can be found at ucc.ca/yourvoice
“The policy recommendations UCC has developed reflect the broad range of views in the Ukrainian Canadian community, and will provide important direction for ongoing policy discussions with federal decision-makers,” said UCC CEO Ihor Michalchyshyn.
Over the summer and fall, our recommendations will be promoted by UCC leadership and UCC Project Link members, who will be advocating for UCC policy solutions in communities across Canada in advance of the federal election.
Public policy discussion will be an important part of the XXVI Triennial Congress of Ukrainian Canadians, taking place in Ottawa on November 1-3, 2019. For more information about the XXVI Congress please visit www.congress.ucc.ca
