UCC Parliamentary Intern
March 26, 2020
My time in Ottawa has definitely been interesting to say the least. Upon starting the internship, I was able to get acquainted with the MP I’ll be working with – Peter Fonseca, and his team. During the first couple of days on the Hill, I was able to get familiarized with the layout of Parliament and get to know some of the staff with neighbouring offices. Additionally, I got the opportunity to shadow Peter at Committee and Sub-Committee meetings and observe Question Period (QP) at the House of Commons. During QP there were increasing discussions about the severity of COV-19 and what the next steps of action would be. As the situation unfolded, we got word of Parliament being suspended for 5-weeks amidst the ever rapidly evolving pandemic.
Given these are unprecedented times, we are trying to do our best given the situation we are in. I am currently fortunate to be able to continue working from home on Committee projects, constituency work, and assignments for the UCC. In the coming weeks I hope to continue working on important projects that will aid Canadians who face uncertainties or have questions during this COVID-19 outbreak.
