June 6, 2023. OTTAWA, ON. In the early morning hours of June 6, the Russian Federation blew up the dam at the Kakhovka Hydroelectric plant in southern Ukraine. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) condemns this Russian terrorist attack. The UCC calls on the Government of Canada to immediately designate the Russian Federation a state supporter of terrorism.
“Russia’s detonation of the Kakhovka dam is causing mass flooding and threatens the lives and safety of hundreds of thousands of people, the existence of dozens of towns, and the food supply, ecology and environment of southern Ukraine,” stated Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the UCC. “Moreover, it compromises the safety of the nuclear power plant at Zaporizhzhia and that is an act of nuclear terrorism. Canada and our allies must designate the Russian Federation a state supporter of terrorism and implement sanctions that will once and for all disable the Russian war machine.”
