September 7, 2023. Winnipeg, MB. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) expresses its deep condolences on the passing of Stefan Orest Andrusiak in London, Ontario at the age of 73.
Stefan was a notable community leader, journalist, broadcaster and musician for many decades. He was well known as a founding member of the band Rushnychok.
Journalism and storytelling were his greatest passions. He began his career in Toronto at the writing desk of CTV National News and after many years at newsrooms across North America finished his career at the CBC where his stories ran regularly on The National. He later became Dean and then Chair of Communications and Media studies at Fanshaw College, and taught Media Ethics and Journalism at Western University, mentoring young people starting their careers.
Most recently, Stefan launched the extraordinary “Nasha Kasha” national radio program about Ukrainian life and the extraordinary stories of the Ukrainian community. Episodes are available on his Youtube channel to listen and enjoy.
Stefan served as Vice President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, London Branch for many years as well as President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, Ontario Provincial Council from 2012-2015.
