UCC National President Alexandra Chyczij participated in the Halifax International Security Forum from November 22-24.
“The Forum was an opportunity to keep the focus of the international community firmly on supporting Ukraine’s victory against Russia’s genocidal war of aggression,” stated Chyczij. “Ukraine is defending democracy and freedom in Europe against Russian tyranny. The world’s democracies must do more to help Ukraine win and win quickly.”

Chyczij met with high-ranking officials from Canada, Ukraine and beyond, including Minister of National Defence Bill Blair; Speaker of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk; Major Anna Novak of Ukraine’s Land Forces; Senator Stan Kutcher; former MP and civic activist Hanna Hopko, and many others.
Opening the Forum, Peter Van Praagh, President of the HFX, stated, “In many ways, Ukraine today is fighting its War of Independence.” In impassioned remarks on the panel dedicated to Ukrainian victory, US Senator Mike Rounds, (R-SD), addressed those who would try to negotiate with Russia over Ukraine’s head, “It’s time to take a hard look at this thing and really ask ourselves, do you believe that this tyrant, if you offer him a part of a free country, do you think he’s going to stop?”
