May 26, 2025. OTTAWA, ON. Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) issued the following statement in response to the terror attacks Russia is launching against Ukrainian cities:
In the last three nights, as Ukrainians marked the anniversary of the founding of Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, Russia launched a barbaric, relentless air attack against Kyiv and many other Ukrainian cities. Russia purposely targets innocent civilians in an attempt to terrorize Ukraine’s population.
Last night alone, Russia fired over 350 drones and cruise missiles at Ukrainian cities – the largest air attack since Russia began the full-scale, genocidal war against Ukraine in February 2022. More than ten civilians have been killed and dozens injured by these Russian terrorist attacks. May the Memory of the Victims Be Eternal. Вічная Пам’ять.
Russia does not want peace because the price that Russia is paying for war is far too low. Canada and our allies must respond forcefully to these Russian attacks. First, the delivery of air defences and weapons to Ukraine must be substantially increased to protect Ukrainian civilians.
Sanctions on Russian energy must be substantially increased. Russian assets must be seized. Finally, countries that continue trading with Russia’s shadow fleet should be subject to secondary sanctions.
Canada’s Parliament returns to work today. The UCC asks Canada’s new government to act decisively in increasing support to Ukraine and increasing pressure on Russia.
