June 17, 2025. OTTAWA, ON. As leaders of the G7 meet in Canada, Russia escalates a vicious campaign of terror-bombing of Ukrainian cities. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) calls on Canada and Ukraine’s allies to respond forcefully to stop Russian terrorism.
Last night, as Ukraine’s civilians slept, Russia attacked Ukrainian cities with more than 440 drones and 30 missiles. Russia targeted Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Kirovohrad, Mykola, Odesa Zaporizhzhia and Kyiv oblasts.
The capital Kyiv suffered one of the most brutal attacks since Russia launched its genocidal war of aggression against Ukraine. Eight districts of Kyiv were attacked by Russian drones and missiles. Russia murdered at least 15 civilians; at least 114 have been injured. May the Memory of the Victims be Eternal. Вічная Пам’ять.
“Russia will continue to murder Ukrainians until world leaders demonstrate the collective resolve that is necessary to end Russia’s barbaric war. They must increase military assistance to Ukraine, increase sanctions on Russia and seize Russian assets,” stated Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the UCC. “Canada and our allies have the tools to force Russia to stop the carnage it is inflicting on Ukraine. Let’s use them.”
The UCC calls on the leaders of the G7 (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom, United States) to:
- Support Ukraine. Substantially increase weapons and ammunition deliveries to Ukraine and keep providing Ukraine with economic and financial support.
- Support Justice. Substantially increase sanctions on Russia, apply secondary sanctions to countries doing business with Russia’s shadow fleet and support an international tribunal that will hold Russia accountable for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
- Make Russia Pay. Seize the $300 billion in Russian assets held in Western institutions and provide these funds to Ukraine for defence and reconstruction.
