A Giving Tuesday Inspiration: Daniel Bourque’s Story
As the son of a Ukrainian WWII refugee who emigrated to Canada in 1949 and the grandson of a political activist who died in Lviv fighting for Ukrainian independence, the current world events have a particular resonance for Daniel Bourque. As such he has made it a priority in the past years to donate regularly to UCC and the Canada-Ukraine Foundation. He has also been inspired by the dedication of Alexandra Chyczij, UCC President whom he worked with while he chaired the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association in 2020.
Daniel ran the Amsterdam Marathon on October 15 and decided to use the opportunity to raise funds for CUF (Canada Ukraine Foundation). More recently Daniel won an award at Workday (a provider of enterprise cloud solutions for Finance and HR where he works as Assistant General Counsel) and decided to contribute the award to UCC on Giving Tuesday this year.
Says Daniel “it’s a privilege to live in a wealthy democracy like Canada that has given so much to my family and welcomed millions of refugees over the years. It’s our duty as Canadians and descendants of Ukrainian immigrants to help and give back in any way we can”.
