Donors that leave a gift in their Will show a deep love
In a country as big and diverse as Canada, the physical landscape is vast and for the first time in UCC history, there are UCC Branches from coast to coast to coast. The 2022 Triennial Congress in Winnipeg brought people together that otherwise could not have attended, if it wasn’t for the generous sponsors that funded the Triennial Congress Travel Fund. This allowed Ukrainian Canadians to attend a Triennial for the first time. These individuals returned home, planted seeds, and with UCC’s support now, only two years later, these areas of Canada have joined the UCC family.
As you know, UCC is a non-profit and funded by our contributions. My husband and I updated our Wills last year and this made us reflect on what is meaningful in our lives and what kind of legacy do we want to leave. Our lawyer instructed us to go home and “think about it and talk to your children about your wishes”. This exercise provided an opportunity for reflection. In today’s fast-paced society, reflection is something that we have to make time for. We are too busy running from place to place, appointment to appointment, and not surprisingly, many of our newly-retired friends and family have busier schedules than when they were employed. We all seem to be running in a race, but where is the finish line?
The Ukrainian Canadian Congress has been racing for the last 83 years, supporting the Ukrainian community in Canada and everything the UCC does supports Ukraine. As you read this letter, please schedule some time to reflect on what is important to you. What do you want your legacy to be? Make it personal – your legacy should reflect your passions in life. It may seem like 1.4 million Ukrainians in Canada is a large number, but this number has been diminishing through the years. It is up to each of us individually to support what is meaningful to us; we cannot rely on our neighbours. This is personal and we need to make the time to plan out our desires and wishes. Canada has great tax benefits. Speak to your financial advisor.
As we prepare for another Canadian winter, I wish you a lovely month of November. Stay safe and enjoy the crisp autumn air!
Thank you for your continued support.
Glory to Ukraine! Слава Україні!
