CANADEM recruitment of Short-Term Electoral Observers (STO’s)
On December 6, 2018 the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development, announced up to $24 million in support for Ukraine’s democracy ahead of the 2019 election cycle in Ukraine.
$11 million has been specifically identified for CANADEM to implement elections observer missions. CANADEM is now recruiting 150 Short-Term Electoral Observers (STOs) to the Ukraine Presidential Election. 100 observers will be deployed with the bilateral mission run by CANADEM and 50 will deploy with the OSCE mission.
The first round of the Presidential election is scheduled for March 31, 2019, and second round in the likely event of runoff on April 21, 2019.Tentative deployment dates for selected observers for the bilateral mission are March 25 to April 3 and, in case of a runoff, April 15 to April 24.
