The Vyshyvanka has been a sacred emblem of Ukrainian culture, tradition and history since ancient times. On Vyshyvanka Day, Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine around the world wear a Ukrainian embroidered shirt to show their support for the Ukrainian people and as a symbol of unity, dignity and love.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2014 and Russia’s illegal occupation of Crimea and parts of eastern Ukraine, Vyshyvanka Day has also been an important reminder of the struggle of the Ukrainian people in defence of their sovereignty. Vyshyvanka Day is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to Ukraine’s freedom, democracy and independence.
