27 April, 2022. OTTAWA. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress is excited to begin the search for a number of summer staff across Canada, through the support of the Canada Summer Jobs program. Positions will be available in Montreal, Ottawa, and Winnipeg and include a combination of in-person and remote work.
The UCC will continue to strictly follow all public health guidelines and directives from federal, provincial and local authorities. Final length of term will be identified pending approval of grant funding from the Government of Canada.
Applications should be filled out using our online form by Friday May, 6 2022 and must include a resume and cover letter indicating why the applicant is interested in working with the Ukrainian Canadian Congress. Our positions are paid $15-$16 per hour, other terms of contract will vary by location.
Positions to be filled include:
- Executive Assistant: UCC Head Office (Winnipeg, MB)
- Event Coordinator: UCC Head Office (Winnipeg, MB)
- Executive Assistant: Montreal Community Outreach (Montreal, QC) applicants must speak French for this position
- Communications Specialist (Winnipeg, MB and/or Ottawa, ON)
- Development and implementation of community outreach plan and awareness activities (online primarily)
- Assist in the preparation of communication materials for the Ukrainian community, including online materials, databases and resources
- Work with local businesses, community organizations and cultural groups including recent immigrants to Canada
- Support to cultural groups, seniors’ organizations, youth organizations and others
- Provide general office administrative support, including inquiries from general public.
- Experience working with community organizations and individuals
- A keen understanding of the Ukrainian Canadian community, including locally
- Excellent communication, customer service and organizational skills
- Ability to multi-task and problem solve
- Fluency in English and proficiency in Ukrainian essential. Proficiency in French an asset
To be eligible, youth must:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment*
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
**International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the Canada Summer Jobs program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.
