June 10, 2026. OTTAWA, ON. On June 9, the Senate of Canada paid tribute to Senator Donna Dasko (Ontario), who is retiring from the Senate.
The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) is sincerely grateful to Senator Dasko for her exemplary service to Canada, her steadfast support of the Ukrainian people and the Ukrainian Canadian community.
The UCC was honoured to be present to witness Senator Dasko’s farewell speech and to hear tributes from her Senate colleagues.
“On behalf of the Ukrainian Canadian community, I thank Senator Dasko for her work on behalf of Canada and in support of Ukraine and our community,” stated Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the UCC. “Senator Dasko has been a valued advisor and her leadership has been inspirational. We thank Senator Dasko and wish her Многая Літа!”
Among Senator Dasko’s many significant contributions is as author of Bill S-214, An Act to amend the Special Economic Measures Act (disposal of foreign state assets) which, when adopted, would strengthen Canada’s sanctions regime and allow the Government to seize foreign state assets without a judicial order.
S-214 recently passed the Senate. The UCC was proud to support the adoption of the Bill at the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, and calls on the House of Commons to adopt the Bill.
