June 15, 2026. OTTAWA, ON. Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) issued the following statement:
Last night, Russia launched a series of barbaric attacks, murdering eleven people and injuring 53. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress joins the Ukrainian people in mourning. May the Memory of the Victims Be Eternal. Вічная Пам’ять.
Russian missiles targeted Kyiv’s Pechersk Lavra – a monastery with a thousand-year history, one of Ukraine’s most important spiritual and cultural sites and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Russia also targeted the “Mystetskyi Arsenal” Museum, the National Palace of Arts, the Karpenko-Kary University, the Dnipro House of Organ and Chamber Music, the Kharkiv Art Museum and the Dovzhenko Film Studios.
In its ongoing genocidal campaign against Ukraine, Russia is destroying Ukraine’s cultural heritage, trying to erase everything that is Ukrainian.
The leaders of the G7 are meeting in France. The UCC calls on the G7 to provide Ukraine with more air defences and more long-range weapons so that Ukraine can stop Russian attacks on Ukrainian civilians. Sanctions against Russia must be significantly strengthened to break Russia’s war machine. And at long last – Russia must be designated a terrorist state and isolated from the international community.
