The International Conference “Roads to Freedom: On the 20th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence: Accomplishments and Challenges”
The International Conference “Roads to Freedom: On the 20th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence: Accomplishments and Challenges”, dedicated to the 20th Anniversary of Ukraine and the 20th Anniversary of the Rebirth of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, will take place on October 7-8 in Kyiv at National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
The Conference will focus on needed reforms in higher education to bring this important issue to the attention of the academic community, experts, the political establishment, journalists in Ukraine and the world, to promote necessary changes. The Conference will promote the principle of university autonomy, it will gather support for concrete reforms and the establishment of competitiveness of Ukrainian universities. It is our hope that the Conference will raise the quality of higher education, that it will promote the growth of research, that it will also lead to overcoming corruption and that it will persuade the members of government and Parliamentary deputies in Ukraine that university autonomy should be an established principle that is essential for reform in education. In as much reforms in education have not taken place in the post-soviet space, with the exception of the Baltics and Georgia, the conference “Roads to Freedom” will be of international im! portance.
Participants in the Conference will include leaders and representatives of European and North American universities, government and civil society, all the ministers of education of independent Ukraine, representatives of the Presidential Administration, National Security Council, members of Parliament, journalists and academics. We already have confirmations from five members of the European Parliament, and also from representatives of University Paris-Dauphine (France), Ecole Normale Superieure (France), Ilia State University (Georgia), University of Carleton (Canada), University of Western Ontario (Canada), Warsaw University (Poland), Jagiellonian University in Krakow (Poland), Princeton University (USA), Sapienza University of Rome (Italy), Friedrich-Schiller-Universitat Jena (Germany), Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (Spain). From Ukraine, we have confirmation from from the leaders of National Y. Fedkovych University of Chernivtsi, National V. Karazin University of ! Kharkiv, National O. Honchar University of Dnipropetrovsk, Ukrainian Catholic University, National Ivan Franko University of I. Franko, National University “Ostrokh Academy”, University of Economics and Law “Krok”, National Economic University of Kyiv, Petro Mohyla Black Sea State University, and others.
